Personnel指人员，全体人员（看下例）。All personnel meet at the meeting room.所有员工在会议室集合。personnel还指人事部，人事科。

I have been assigned to Class Eight.
我被分到了八班。
上学时候的分班，工作时候的分组，这个由上向下地“分”，就要使用动词词组be assigned to。如果to后面跟sth，就是“向（某人）提供、把……分派给（某人）”的意思；如果to后面跟动词原形do，就是“（某人）被指派做某事”的意思。
例句：
The best engineers were assigned to the most difficult job.
（他们）把最困难的工作分派给了最优秀的工程师
I'm not complaining, only making a point.
我并不是抱怨，只是表明一个看法。
make a point，两个主要意义：阐明一个观点、发表看法；或得一分。这里是第一个意思。
例句：
Believe me! I have made a point! 相信我！我有了个点子
He dedicated most of his time to charity work.
他大部分时间都致力于慈善工作。

dedicate表示把时间或精力等用在...，用在哪方面就用介词to。 dedicate的名词是 dedication,表示对某事的热诚和献身。
例：
Her dedication to education.她对教育的热诚付出。
He dedicated his life to science.他献身于科学
She dresses very modestly.
她衣着非常端庄。

modest是个形容词，表示谦虚的（看下例）；也可表示恰当的，得体的，（衣着）端庄的。He is modest about his success.他在成功面前表现得很谦虚。
例句：
She wore a modest bathing suit.她穿一件不太暴露的游泳衣
She is an engaging girl.
她是个迷人的女孩。

engaging表示可爱的，迷人的。 an engaging novel，一部引人入胜的小说。
例句：
Many people were attracted by her engaging smile.许多人被她迷人的微笑所吸引了
Reading on-line just takes a little getting used to.
在线阅读只需要习惯它。

get used to something只适应某东西，上句中的getting used to是个动名词短语，把整一块都看作个名词就行了。It takes some time to get used to a new job.适应一份新的工作需要些时间。
例句：
It is very difficult to get used to working with heavy smokers.和烟瘾很重的人一同工作是非常难适应的
This radio can fit in the palm of my hand.
这收音机体积小到我可一手掌握。

如果某东西能fit in the palm of one's hand 表明这东西迷你到能一手掌握。如果某人或某事是in the palm of one's hand也可表示在某人的掌控之中。
例：
Everything is in the palm of my hand.一切尽在我的掌握之中。
He is in the palm of my hand.他逃不出我的五指山
He is full of novel ideas.
他满脑子都是新奇的想法。

常看到novel这单词都是用做名词表示小说，但上句的novel是个形容词，表示新的，新奇的，新颖的。
例：
That store sells many kinds of novel toys.那家商店出售多种新奇的玩具。
novelty是个名词，表示新颖，新奇的东西。 a novelty shop专卖新颖小巧而廉价的小玩意儿的个性小店
In my view，he is the best person for this job.
我个人认为他是这工作的最佳人选。

view有风景的意思，在上句中view表示观点，看法。in my view=in my opinion 意思是在我看来，依我看。近似于I think/guess/feel/suppose(我想、我认为、我觉得)等表达形式，都是用来表示个人的看法或意见等。上句也可写成：I think he is the best person for this job/ In my opinion, he is the best person for this job.
例：
In my view/opinion, China is the greatest country on the world.
依我所看，中国是世界上最伟大的国家。
Are there any new blockbusters coming out?
有没有新的大片推出？

blockbuster本指军事上的重磅炸弹，也能表示耗巨资制作的电影（大片）。come out表示（出版物的）出版或发行，（电影`唱片等的）推出。
例：
When will his new novel come out?他新创作的小说什么时候出版
He made a speech at the commencement.
他在毕业典礼上作了一次演讲。

commencement,本指开始，因为毕业就相当于又一个开端，所以commencement在美国英语中也可表示毕业典礼，相当于graduation ceremony。当然，这个句子也可以说成，He made a speech at the graduation ceremony
