Many ppl think that if the boy asks the girl out, then it is his obligation to pay all the bills, tickets, lunch....In my opinion, it depends. A dinner check and a monthly bill like credit card, utility bills.. are two different things~ If the amount is not that big, I will pay the bills as long as I got money.
In my case, if she (my gf) insists on paying or at least splitting it, then I think she is an independent girl. If she lets me pay everytime without giving it a second thought, then she is expecting that I should take care of her, i mean, not only in several dates. That will make me feel tired (after 3 months~~)

case1: If you two are students --> split
case2: who got a job will pay
case3: you both got jobs~ There should be two joint accounts, one checking account for your daily life and a saving account for your future plans. If you two are getting married, you'd better go to the bank now and open a joint account immediately. Make sure there is a minimum level of money in the account (a margin).
Bisides, I have learned in my experience: when you are stressed about a bill, you should discuss this issue with your partner right now.
